Current Programs

B.A.B.E.S. (Beginning Alcohol & Addictions Basic Education Studies) provides children with the skills they need to live healthy lives.

W.I.S.E. (Wellness Initiative with Senior Educators) - Provides free training to older adults, age 50 and over, and guidance in developing and presenting prevention programs in the community.

Summer Scene - A six week daily summer program for at-risk youth in grades 6 through 9. Special guests and activities provide information on substance abuse, self esteem and peer pressure.

Project Graduation - An alcohol and drug free celebration giving our students one last chance to gather as a class. Graduating students are transported from the High School at 10:00 to a sports arena to enjoy an overnight stay. The evenings entertainment and activities include dancing, swimming, miniature golf, face painting, volleyball etc. The students are returned to the High School at 6:00 am for breakfast. http://www.hs.ebruns.k12.nj.us/hs/projgrad01/index.htm

Parenting Support & Education Group - The Parenting Support & Education Group has been designed to offer parents of teens in East Brunswick an opportunity to participate in an educational support group. The goal of the group is to improve the parenting skills, and helping parents better communicate with their teens.

2002 Alcohol Awareness Month Activities - The 2002 Alcohol Awareness Month is facilitated by the East Brunswick Youth Services Commission and the East Brunswick Friends of Community of Community and Youth Services. Various events will take place at schools in East Brunswick though out the month of April.

Previous Programs

T.A.T.U. (Teens Against Tobacco Use) - Over twenty East Brunswick High School student volunteers, committed to not smoking, were trained by East Brunswick Student Assistance Specialists and an American Cancer Society Representative for the purpose of presenting three sessions to Middle School students about smoking prevention.

Impact 2000; Safe Roads - A consultant funded by The East Brunswick Alliance, provided four hours of training in the Impact 2000; Safe Roads curriculum to Student Assistance Counselors, Driver's Education and Health Education teachers. The teachers utilized the Impact 2000 alcohol prevention program by incorporating it into the driver's ed/health curriculums. The program utilizes Total Vision goggles that simulates the effects of alcohol on vision, stability, coordination and perception.

EBTV - PSA Production Contest - Students from Hammarskjold, Churchill and East Brunswick High School were invited to create and produce Public Service Announcements (PSA) for alcohol and drug abuse prevention. The three winning PSA were televised on EBTV's weekly news programs, 'This Week in East Brunswick". Gift certificates were awarded to the winners.
