PLUMBING SUBCODE |
 |
|
Why are Plumbing Permits Needed?
- To prevent scalding, explosions and injuries from improperly installed plumbing equipment
- To prevent sickness or disease from sewer gases, bacteria growth from improperly installed plumbing and to protect against water contamination.
- To make sure contractors are doing code compliant installation and to test for proper installations.
What Type of Plumbing Work Needs Permits and How Does It Relate to Safety, Health and Welfare:
- A permit is not required for the replacement of lavoratories, vanities or kitchen sinks if the water pipes aren't changed from valve back and the waste line is not changed from the trap arm back.
- Water closets may be changed or removed for floor installation as long as no piping is changed.
- Some of the plumbing work that needs permits includes hot water heaters, boilers and furnaces, air conditioners and heat pumps, additions, small bathrooms, new kitchens, laundry tubs and tub and shower diverters.
When Should You Call For Inspections and Who Should Call:
- You should call for inspection of underground work, under slab, rough and pressure tests, final and for gas service connections. Either the owner or agent may call but be sure the work is ready and that someone will be able to meet with the inspector.
The Most Common Corrections Are:
- Temperature pressure relief valve not piped properly on water heaters
- Saddle valve used for domestic water connections for ice makers and humidifiers
- Vacuum relief valve not installed on a water heater needed
- Wall penetrations not properly sealed
- Temperature settings not properly set on ant-scald valves (120 degrees max.)
